"hate" report of the afternoon: woman not charged with killing "native american"

the individual was walking on the side of the road "in the early hours," meaning it was dark, she was dark, and what about her clothes?...the woman who (maybe/probably) accidentally killed her has two children with unpopular names and she has tattoos and body piercing:

N.S.: Hey, I'm a native American, so is my kid, so were my parents, and two of my grandparents.

Urban dwellers may not realize how dark country roads are--no street lights, and probably no white lines. If the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a light, she would have been almost impossible to see until it was too late. I remember driving on a road like that--on a dark night it was extremely difficult to even see which way the road went. Whether the pedestrian or the driver (or both) were drunk as skunks also makes a big difference. Not everything is about race.

The DM article is amateurish and ridiculously tendentious. It includes a lot of irrelevant nonsense. Just trash. But DM is a tabloid.

"Investigators have so far stubbornly refused to entertain the possibility that Mika's death was a hate crime."

Typical media racial agitation.

Also:

"It is not known exactly what time Mika was hit by the Cadillac, as its driver had fled the scene by the time her body was discovered at around 4am by tribal officer TJ Haynes."

The phrase "fled the scene" makes it sound like it was hit and run. But from other stories it appears she remained at the scene, and if she left it was because responding cops allowed her to leave later.

This story seems to provide more background:

https://missoulian.com/news/local/crime-courts/arlee-family-seeks-answers-in-deadly-highway-93-crash/article_8a9dd5ec-ef72-11ed-a5db-731c46e84351.html

"Tribal police were the first to arrive on scene, and a Highway Patrol trooper who arrived later filed a fatal crash report, listing an unnamed driver as a 28-year-old woman from Butte, who had two children in the car, a 2-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. None of the occupants in the car were injured. Alcohol, drugs and speed were not listed as suspected factors in the crash."

So it appears she did remain at the scene and was allowed to leave after the cops did their thing. Cops did not suspect she was drunk or speeding. Did they do a thorough job on-scene at the time? Who knows. But both tribal police and the MHP were there. Did both agencies screw up?

But:

"Lake County Attorney James Lapotka confirmed that on the same day as Westwolf's death, a suspect was arrested shortly after the crash on suspicion of a DUI in Lake County. The suspect, a woman, was booked into the Lake County jail but was released because the county attorney's office decided there wasn’t sufficient evidence to file a DUI charge without toxicology evidence currently being processed by the state crime lab."

It looks like the same woman may have been arrested later that day on suspicion of DUI. But they are not sure if she was over the legal limit.

"He added that the crime lab is taking about eight weeks to process toxicology results."

8 weeks is a long time for simple BAC test.

"Lapotka confirmed that a woman named Sunny K. White is 28 years old, and her Cadillac Escalade is being investigated by Montana Highway Patrol as the suspect car involved in hitting a pedestrian on March 31 near Arlee. Lapotka did not confirm whether White was the arrested DUI suspect, but Howard and Heavy Runner believe the incidents could be connected."

This is weirdly vague. Why can't or won't they say if the woman and vehicle involved in the fatal pedestrian accident is the same woman/vehicle involved in the later suspected DUI?

"According to a Missing Endangered Person Advisory issued from Butte Silver Bow law enforcement on April 7, seven days after Westwolf’s death, White broke into a residence in Butte and took her two children — 4-year-old Aryan and 2-year-old Nation, the Montana Standard reported. The children's ages and genders and White’s age and gender match the information listed in Westwolf's fatal crash report."

So it looks like the same woman who was at the wheel when the young Indian woman was struck and killed apparently has custody issues with an ex, and is accused of kidnapping her kids.

The names of the kids are Aryan and Nation. Of course the names are stupid and inappropriate. But just because you give your kids stupid and inappropriate names doesn't mean you're going to deliberately run over and kill an Indian woman.

"Mika J. Westwolf, 22, was walking home along U.S. Highway 93 on the Flathead Reservation in the early morning hours of March 31."

Exactly what time was it? Was it dark? If it was dark, how could the driver tell what the person walking looked like?

"As people in the tribal community sought answers to what happened to Westwolf, members reached out to the Montana Human Rights Network. The organization said, in an online statement, White’s children’s names “clearly indicate her support for white nationalist ideals.”

Here is the website of the Montana Human Rights Network:

https://mhrn.org/

Generally it looks like about what you would expect. It has a section called "Exposing the Right".

Also:

"What We Do

We expand human rights in Montana by pursuing progressive public policy, combating white nationalism, and supporting community organizing. We addresses issues of: LGBT Equality, Economic Justice, Immigrant/Refugee Rights, Anti-Semitism & Islamophobia, and Tribal Sovereignty."

Another infantile leftist organization.

Where was the victim struck? Was she on the shoulder? Or on the road? Was the victim drunk?

I don't blame the victim's family for wondering if the driver may have been intoxicated, and if this was a factor, especially if the young woman was walking on the shoulder when she was hit and killed.

The "white supremacist" accusations are scurrilous nonsense.

But it also appears that slow and sloppy police work may have contributed to the doubts about what happened and who, if anyone, was at fault.

From the MHRN:

"FATAL HIT & RUN INCIDENT NEAR ARLEE DESERVES INVESTIGATION AS HATE CRIME"

https://mhrn.org/2023/04/19/fatal-hit-run-incident-near-arlee-deserves-investigation-as-hate-crime/

It links to this story:

https://www.ktvq.com/news/montana-news/missing-endangered-person-advisor-issued-for-butte-children

"White was recently charged with vehicular homicide for an incident earlier this month and the children were removed from her care."

Is that true? Was she charged with "vehicular homicide"?

That accusation seems to be taken from a "Missing Endangered Person Advisory" issued by or on behalf of "Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement".

"Sunny White Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Missing Endangered Person Advisory"

If you do a search for the above phrase, you find that a number of MT media outlets carried the advisory, including the allegation that Sunny White was "recently charged with vehicular homicide".

https://mtstandard.com/news/local/update-missing-butte-children-found-safe/article_f17bc812-de0d-11ed-9d0f-576469fa8cab.html

"Sunny was recently charged with vehicular homicide for an incident earlier this month and the children were removed from her care. Sunny broke into a residence in Butte and took both children. She may possibly be heading towards Kalispell.

Sunny is known to abuse drugs and there is concern for the children’s wellbeing. She may possibly be driving a black 2015 Ford pickup with unknown license plates."

Other reports said it was a Cadillac Escalade (not inexpensive) that hit and killed the young woman. Was she driving the Cadillac? Here it says she was driving a Ford pickup. How many vehicles does she have access to?

Aryan and Nation. That is so funny.

"Aryan and Nation. That is so funny."

I doubt the kids will think so once they're older.

"I doubt the kids will think so once they're older."

Funny in a bad way. Funny. The deceased was found on the reservation? Perhaps the accused is being prosecuted by the wrong jurisdiction.
