HIP-hop star Nicki Minaj yesterday told of her sadness at Nicola Furlong's murder after one of her concerts.

As the 21-year-old's body was returned from Japan to Ireland for burial, US rapper Minaj told how she was praying for the Wexford girl's loved ones.

Nicola was found strangled in a hotel room in Tokyo nine days ago, just hours after going to the gig.

Minaj tweeted: "Saddened to learn one of my precious fans; found tragically murdered in Japan.

"My love and prayers are with the family of Nicola Furlong."

Cops are investigating whether the tragic exchange student was also sexually assaulted during the attack in a bedroom of the upmarket Keio Plaza Hotel.

She and a pal — also from Wexford — had returned there with two men they'd met after the Minaj concert.

Both these men — rapper James Blackston, 23, and a 19-year-old — remain in custody.

They are charged with sexually assaulting Nicola's friend in a taxi while she was "in a comatose state".

Tragic return ... Nicola's body arrived back yesterday

Cops suspect the duo may have spiked the girls' drinks.

The teen was allegedly seen standing over Nicola's body in the early hours of last Thursday.

Minaj last night dismissed reports the two arrested men were her backing dancers.

She said: "No one in my entourage was arrested.

"We do NOT know the men in custody. Too much misleading information."

Gig ... Nicola

Blackston's sister Ericka Batiste last night tweeted: "My brother was a good guy he will never murder or rape any one." Minaj is due to appear in the Olympia Theatre in Dublin on July 4.

Yesterday the US lawyer who defended Amanda Knox confirmed Nicola's killer could be hanged. Ted Simon told CNN: "Japan has the death penalty."

Meanwhile Nicola's parents last night brought her home to Curracloe, Co Wexford.

Heartbroken dad Andrew and mum Angie were greeted by family and friends as the bright pink coffin was walked into the house, where she will be waked.
