Springtime for Chitown: 40—No, Make that 42, Er, 43—Shot, 5 Killed, in Ongoing Weekend Violence in Chicago; Does the Chicago Tribune Have a Gang Protection Policy?; More on “Disappearing” Murders and Self-Driving, Auto-Shooting Drone Sedans

According to Gerould W. Kern's Chicago Tribune, murder victim Leonore Draper was the only crime victim with a name or a face

A woman [Leonore Draper, 32] is shot and killed just hours after attending an anti-violence rally on the South Side. A neighbor found her body inside her car in her driveway. Police believe she was the victim of a drive-by shooting.

Thanks for this article to reader-researcher “W,” who recalls,

[3:47 p.m.] Springtime in Chicago. My father’s office was on Jackson Blvd, right around the corner from Orchestra Hall and across the street from the Art Institute. But he closed shop in the spring of 1982. I have no intention of going back there again….As Nicholas has noted, these “news” reports out of Chicago refrain from mentioning the names of victims. We are supposed to think that it is just “gun violence.”
4:30 p.m. Update from a half-hour ago. The headline should read “only 42 shot….” They are on Central Time, so Chicago’s weekend has another 81/2 hours to go until Midnight. Plenty of time for more “gun violence.” And speaking of which, haven’t there been any stabbings or beatings over this period? Wonder what the total “violence” score comes to?
Five were killed in traffic accidents in the Petoskey area over the third weekend in February. They were all related to a blizzard that swept through here. We are a center of what should be dubbed, “weather violence.”

(One hour and six minutes after “W’s” last update, the Tribune reported yet another shooting.)

“W” makes an excellent point. I have read dozens of Chicago Tribune weekend crime reports over the years, and have yet to see a single report of someone being stabbed or bludgeoned, fatally or otherwise.

I have written repeatedly of how Tribune Editor Gerould W. Kern and his columnists and so-called reporters are loyal to black and Hispanic cut-throats, and hate law-abiding whites.

However, it’s gotten worse of late. Last week, the article I re-posted named one 11-year-old black girl—Tymisha Washington—who was shot, who was not a gang member, and the accompanying video named her and all four kids with her who were also shot, and also supposedly not gang members. Meanwhile, the article did not name a single one of the 30-odd gunshot victims who presumably were gang members.

To return to the issue of non-shooting violent crime, when I’m in Trinidad, I religiously read multiple different newspapers, and occasionally read their Web sites when I’m home. This is mostly a waste of time, since almost all of the papers simply regurgitate the same government press releases, but sometimes a paper will go rogue, and actually do some reporting. I also watch some TV news and this weeknightly crime show Crime Watch, hosted by Ian Alleyne, whom people call, when the police are worthless (which is almost all the time), to get him to help them. Alleyne works harder than the cops do at solving crimes. He’s the law-enforcement equivalent of the “Shame on You” consumer reporter, and when he publicizes a case, the National Police Service suddenly rouses itself.

As with Chicago, I never see reports of stabbing and bludgeoning murders in Trinidad. But there are a ton of stabbings there, in part because everyone has cutlasses (aka machetes), which are one of the most basic tools for cutting cane and the vine-like grass there, are sharp enough cut off a person’s limbs and head, and people frequently go nuts with them.
A Trini I have known for many years from the medical field, and who frequently works on autopsies, says that there are as many stabbing as shooting murders in Trinidad, so not reporting on stabbing murders is yet another way to “disappear” murders.

43 Shot, 5 Killed, in Spate of Weekend Violence in Chicago
The latest homicide took place around 12:25 a.m. Sunday

Chicago Tribune

At least 43 people have been shot, five of them fatally, in a spate of violence across Chicago since Friday.

[“Spate”? Gogle defines “spate” as: “a large number of similar things or events appearing or occurring in quick succession.”

But the violence didn’t “occur[ring] in quick succession.” Rather, it happened at the usual pace for a very short Chicago weekend. (A Chicago weekend may last from Friday through early Sunday, Friday through a holiday Monday or, increasingly, Tuesday through Monday.]

The latest homicide took place around 12:25 a.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of West Fullerton Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood.

A [nameless] 21-year-old woman was in the back seat of a vehicle driving eastbound on Fullerton when a group of [raceless, faceless] men standing on the sidewalk shouted gang slogans and opened fire on the car.

[“Gang slogans”? For what gang? As usual, the Tribune’s senseless reporters refuse to divulge this vital information.]

The woman was transported to Norwegian American Hospital with wounds to the left side of her head and was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.

On Saturday, a [nameless] 17-year-old boy was fatally shot when a [raceless, faceless] man dressed in all black [thanks for the useless information] approached him in the 5500 block of West North Avenue and fired at him from behind. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Less than an hour earlier, a [nameless] 22-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and a [nameless] 19-year-old woman who was shot in the leg was taken in stable condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The two were shot when [a raceless, faceless] someone fired into a home from outside, striking them both.

Police are conducting a homicide investigation.

On Friday, a 32-year-old woman was fatally shot in her driveway in the 1300 block of West 116th Street as she returned home from an anti-violence fundraiser.

[And who, pray tell was going to pocket the money? In black “communities,” fundraisers are scams that usually go straight into the pockets of the scam artists, er, fundraisers.]

Officers reported hearing shots fired around 10:30 p.m. and the woman, identified as Leonore Draper, was found in her car with wounds to her arm and chest. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Earlier Friday, an [nameless] off-duty police officer shot his neighbors, one of them fatally, after one [raceless, faceless] neighbor shot and injured the officer’s [nameless] wife in an argument that stemmed from a long-running feud between the two couples.

Eleven people were injured in overnight shootings Sunday.

  • Around 2 p.m. Sunday, a [nameless] 26-year-old man was shot in the 400 block of East 133rd Street. The man was standing on the block when [a raceless, faceless] someone approached from a gangway and fired at him before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition.
  • Around 1:20 p.m., police said a [nameless] 17-year-old man was shot in the lower right leg in the 1200 block of West 113th Street. He was taken in stable condition to MetroSouth Medical Center in stable condition. Details surrounding the shooting were not immediately available [When are they ever?]
  • Just before 1 p.m. Sunday, a [nameless] 21-year-old man was shot in the 200 block of West 111th Street. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the middle of the back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition.
  • A [nameless] 23-year-old woman shot around 6 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Loomis Boulevard. Police did not have any further details [blah, blah, blah] about how the woman was shot, but said she suffered two wounds to the thigh and was in stable condition at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.
  • Around 3:20 a.m. a [nameless] 21-year-old man was shot while standing on a sidewalk in the 4700 block of North Drake Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood. Police said a silver sedan [containing one or more raceless, faceless people] drove by [a drone sedan!] and fired shots [a self-shooting car!] at the man, who was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital by someone with a wound to his left shin.
  • Less than two hours earlier, two [nameless] 21-year-old men were shot in the 2500 block of West Division Street. The two were on a sidewalk when a large group of [raceless, faceless] men approached on foot and someone in the group fired at the [sic] them, police said. One victim was shot in the left shoulder and taken to John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County in stable condition. The other victim was taken to Norwegian American Hospital with a wound to the right foot and was expected to be treated and released.
  • Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a [nameless] 38-year-old woman was shot while sitting in a parked car in the 10000 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. [!] Drive, officials said. The woman told police a silver sedan drove by and fired shots at the vehicle she was in. [Yet another self-driving, self-shooting drone sedan!] She suffered a graze wound to the left shoulder and refused treatment, police said. [Things are so bad that black Chicago gang girls refusing medical attention for graze wounds!]
  • About 40 minutes earlier, a [nameless] 24-year-old man was shot while driving near West 32nd Street and South Racine Avenue. The man was stopped at a stop sign when a [raceless, faceless] man fired at him from the sidewalk. The victim drove himself to Stroger Hospital in stable condition with a wound to the right forearm, police said. [I guess the nameless vic couldn’t afford a drone sedan.]
  • Just before 9:30 p.m., a [nameless] 16-year-old boy was shot in the 500 block of East 47th Street in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood. The teen was walking on the sidewalk when two [raceless, faceless] men exited a vehicle and fired shots at him. The teen was taken to Mercy Hospital with a wound to his left foot.
  • Around 4:30 p.m., a [nameless] 36-year-old man was shot while standing on the 7900 block of South Vernon Avenue. The man said he heard shots and felt pain. He suffered wounds to his wrist and hip and was listed in good condition at Jackson Park Hospital, where he was expected to be treated and released.

At least 24 others were shot within 16 hours across Chicago.

A few years ago, I remarked to you that the scenario for black on black shootings are something like an individual is standing on the street and someone (on foot or in a car) comes by and shoots him in the back.

There never seems to be a reason for it, at least in the news report.

This weekend in Chicago followed the pattern.
