Zito is an old-style reporter who goes out to talk to ordinary citizens and see things for herself. She was one of the few scribes who realized that Trump had a good chance to win in 2016.

She and others have made the point that the old elites (such as the Kelloggs and Hersheys she mentions below) lived in the same towns as their employees and customers.
