An internal police investigation found Lt. Reginald Patterson "violated multiple department policies" in the Sept. 16 incident "and a separation from service was deemed the appropriate action," Police Chief Shon Barnes said in a statement.
Patterson is black -- Shon Barnes, Madison Chief of Police, is also black -- Madison WI is only 7% black (link), which is about half the national average (13.5%), yet it has a black police chief.
She said placing Patterson on unpaid leave was not an option under civil service rules.
So he has been paid for not working since mid-Sep -- the vast majority of Americans are employed 'at will', meaning they can be fired at any time -- these special protections for public employees, many of them do-nothing types, are fucking ridiculous and have to go.
Last month the man who captured the video, Marcel Scott, said he was in the store's parking lot when he saw "white legs pop up in the back of the police car." ... Scott said he walked to the front of the vehicle and saw a person on top of the woman. He described her as in her 20s or 30s with blue hair. He described the officer as an older, bald, Black male with a mustache.
