N.S.: But I thought that was us. The Fourth World as the worst of all others: The worst of capitalism, communism, and backwardness.

How did all these Haitians get across the Carribean?If it was by boat,that should have been visible and stopped.By plane--that would have been noticed--and should have been stopped.

Haiti has been a disaster for over two hundred years. The solution to Haiti is to totally depopulate the place, replant the vegetation and wait five hundred years or so before going back.
The standard phrase used to be political asylum -- the concept came out of the 1951 refugee convention/treaty, which was motivated by the political/legal persecution of Jews by the Third Reich -- nowadays the word political has largely been dropped in a deliberate effort to expand who is seen as eligible for asylum/refugee status -- poverty, lack of economic opportunity, an overabundance of ordinary criminality, etc, have never been, and should never be seen as, grounds for asylum.

The Haitians first travel to the various Latin American countries including Chile. Then fly to Mexico, take a taxi and travel to the border to cross. That is not cheap. Where do such poverty stricken folks get all that money from.
