Judge in Derek Chauvin Trial: Maxine Waters’ Threats of Riots, if Jury Verdict is “Not Guilty,” Could be “Enough to Overturn” a Guilty Verdict

The judge in the Derek Chauvin trial just made an interesting and provocative statement after the jury retired to deliberate. Eric Nelson was bringing up Maxine Waters’ threats of violence, if the verdict by the jury was determined to be “not guilty.”

Judge Peter Cahill remarked, “There seems to be enough to overturn a verdict against Mr.Chauvin here, based on Representative Waters’ remarks.”

Prejudice works both ways for once?

From what I heard tonight on court tv,because of the way the jury instructions are written concerning assault, there's almost no way for the jury to not convict Chauvin of murder. The prosecution worded the assault part of the deliberations in such a way that it automatically forces the jury to convict Chauvin--if they believe Chauvin intended to assault Floyd. The prosecution made the point that the only way Chauvin did not intend to assault Floyd would be "if Chauvin fell on him."

The rest,it was analyzed by the panel--including an incredulous Vinnie Politan--would automatically convict Chauvin of at least 2nd degree murder. This was done without objection by Chauvin's attorney Eric Nelson.Like N.S. always stated--was this trial a sham and a set-up?

From tonight's proceedings--YES.
