At this point I firmly believe that without government employment, especially affirmative action in government employment, there would be for all practical purposes no black middle class.
It's fairly well known that Chicago has a big problem with un-/under-funded public pension liabilities (as does the state of IL generally) -- this is due to decades of corrupt deals between public employee unions seeking high benefits but low contribution rates, and Chicago politicians wanting to secure votes -- I recall reading remarkable statistics about how many retired Chicago school district (one of the worst performing in the nation) teachers and administrators were either already getting or due to get a pension of more than $100k per year -- the numbers are shocking -- I ask myself: how many of those people are incompetent Blacks who fed at the public trough for decades while doing little of consequence?
