The fcc boss who condemned tv without watching it, is dead at 97, after a long, long life without distinction! (video)

By N.S.

“(6 May 2023) ‘former federal communications commission head Newton Minow, who famously described network tv as a “vast wasteland,” has died. Minow’s daughter, Nell Minow, confirmed that her father died Saturday at home in Chicago, surrounded by loved ones.’”

“If he thought TV was a vast wasteland then, I wondered what he thought of TV now?”

To @sandrasanders706 He had no thoughts, not then, and not 60 years later.

“People today might not know him but he was very famous. Can you name any other fcc chief? tv was just beginning. He was a visionary.”

@marketads1 “He was a visionary.” The hell, he was. He was blind. An “expert” on tv who never watched it.

“ex-fcc chief, Newton Minow dead at 97”

Does the FCC actually exist? It's more mythical than anything these days--as if they're going to tell the networks what to do.If they did, objective news would be broadcast, not Holt,O'Donnell's and ABC's crapfest of propagandic, time wasting bologna.

Why do we hate Newton Minnow? He was a Sidley partner, nice life. One catchy line. Did he have to invent flubber? Seemed nice enough but if there is a reason to hate him, I will try. Not watching TV seems a little thin. Sorry.

When TV programming was mostly utterly innocuous and on occasion outstanding, the critics savaged it incessantly. When it became incrementally more and more offensive, little was said. Now that TV is an open sewer and an apparatus of the (Communist) State, where is the outrage? Yes, Minow was one of the Bad Ones. The best gag about him was in a mock TV GUIDE listing cooked up for April Fool's Day by Jay Ward (or, his writing staff): "VAST WASTELAND Fearless FCC chairman (Wally Cox) pledges to rid TV of violence. When the producer of THE UNTOUCHABLES refuses to cooperate, the chairman is forced to kill him." -RM

(ZH)Are Twitter's days of encouraging free speech and independent thought numbered... or is Musk, just days after unveiling that Tucker is joining, playing 4D chess?

Just hours after Elon Musk announced he had picked a new female Twitter CEO candidate, the WSJ revealed the identity of the person in talks to become the next CEO of the world's most important social network: it is Linda Yaccarino, who is currently NBCUniversal’s influential head of advertising.

GRA:Just when you thought--even for a moment--ahhh,well.
