I have no idea whether he should be or not.
If the university was aware of threats directed at the player, and did nothing, they could and probably would be held liable later if something happened.
The bigger problem is that guys like him are on university campuses in the first place -- very few Blacks are educable in an academic setting, e.g. the fraction of Blacks with an IQ above approx 115 is minuscule.
Stop watching sports on TV -- it's all about TV money.
