Never heard of before: after a fatal shooting friday night on a west side grand rapids street, a passerby stops the murderer from escaping until police arrive

grand rapids, mich. (wood) — “after a man was fatally shot in grand rapids friday night, a witness stopped the suspect until officers could arrest him, police say.

“it happened around 10:50 p.m. on Butterworth street sw near lane avenue. the grand rapids police department says the man was shot multiple times. he was taken to the hospital, where he died.

“the suspect ran away, police say but a witness ‘detained’ him and he was soon arrested.”

GRA: What were the races of all involved—is the question. Fascinating story. Lane and Butterworth is a former polish section of town—now a horrible, minority ghetto area.

(feb 13, 2023) grand rapids, mich. (wood) — “police have released the name of a man who was shot multiple times and killed in grand rapids friday night [february 10, 2023].

“Vasant Patel, 42, died at the hospital after the shooting along Butterworth street sw near Lane avenue.

“Neftali Hernandez, 20, was arraigned monday [february 13, 2023] on charges of open murder and felony firearm. jail records show bond was set at $250,000.

“police say that after the shooting, a witness stopped Hernandez until officers could arrest him.

“the Grand Rapids Police Department has not released any information about what led up to the shooting.”

GRA: Amazing story. This nameless person caught the murderer (mex) right after the shooting. I probably posted the 12th or 11th of february. Horrible part of town, but I was living there in that same area until I was two years old. We moved BEFORE the mex and blacks poured in (chuckle). All Polish, years ago.
