Thanks to Grand Rapids Anonymous for the heads-up!

GRA: “Burt Bacharach dead at 94.

“Need I say more? Another great White talent bites the dust.”

N.S.: Imagine how long he would have lived, if not for apartheid!

The others were the Beatles’ Lennon (1940-1980) and McCartney (1942-); Motown’s Holland-Dozier-Holland (Lamont Dozier (1941-2022) and the Holland Brothers, Brian (1941-) and Eddie Jr. (1939-), H-D-H); and Michel Legrand, and Alan (1925-) and Marilyn Bergman (1928-2022).

“Legendary music composer Burt Bacharach died in los angeles at the age of 94. A new york times headline says his music ‘evoked a sleek era of airy romance.’ whenever he and Dionne Warwick appeared on stage together, it was special. He won three Oscars during the course of his career. Bacharach was also once married to actress Angie Dickenson [sic] and they cut a glamorous path through hollywood. In 2012, president ‘Barack Obama’ presented him with the library of congress Gershwin Prize.”

Note that inside edition snubbed Bacharach's songwriting partner, Hal David (1921-2012), without whom we wouldn't even be talking about the loss of Burt Bacharach.

Supposedly he was told about the song,"Skulls of Birds and Cranes"--read it--and died either of laughter or shock.

I'd have a hard time leaving Carole King and Gerry Goffin off that list, the hits the others on the list didn't write were usually written by them. The Bacharach/David team was pretty amazing though, I actually owned a Dionne Warwick double live album that had all her 60's Bacharach/David hits back in the day and while it was a departure from my more rock oriented stuff and not considered "cool" by my peers, found it to be very enjoyable listening.
