Here We Come A-Caroling
(The Wassail Song) – Traditional
The wassail bowl was a combination of hot ale or beer, spices, and mead, alcoholic enough to warm a cold caroler.

Here we come a-caroling among the leaves so green,
Here we come a-wand’ring so fair to be seen,
Love and joy come to you,
And to you glad Christmas too,
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

We are not daily beggars that beg from door to door,
But we are neighbors’ children whom you have seen before,
Love and joy come to you,
And to you glad Christmas too,
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

God bless the master of this house, likewise the mistress too,
And all the little children that round the table go,
Love and joy come to you,
And to you glad Christmas, too,
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer.

We won’t go until we get some,
We won’t go until we get some,
We won’t go until we get some, so bring some out here.

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Who would you have singing Christmas carols these days?My folks had many Christmas albums and what an all star crew of talented people that were always on them--everyone listed here.Bing,Nat King Cole,Dean,Frank,Perry Como,Tony Bennett,Andy Williams,Brenda Lee,Glen Campbell,Elvis etc.
Today--MAYBE Adele,Gaga can sing,Kelly the fat talk show host chick, but after that?Mariah Carey had one song.
Male singers?I can't think of one.Rappers don't do Christmas--and you wouldn't want them to.)

Mariah Carey did a Christmas special this year, I caught it by chance and watched it intermittently. The lady sure can sing but the show as a whole was gaudy and impersonal. Plus, there was the inevitable need to "diversify" the music which really meant black it up. Those performances were intolerable and I had to switch the channel. One song she slowed down and seemed to just sing from the heart and it turned out nicely, kind of like they did back in the day but nowadays they think the audience wants glitz and doesn't have the attention span for those kind of performances. Plus, there was the feel of woke politicization marring the whole show, and everything else in entertainment nowadays.
