"Christmas Song": Judy Garland & Mel Torme

In case you’re wondering, and I’m sure you are, I don’t have a video of Nat Cole singing “Christmas Song,” because his heirs have made it impossible. “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by King Cole Partners, LP.
Sorry about that.”

[Christmas, 2015: The KK deleted my previous live version of Cole singing “Christmas Song,” but I was able to find a not-yet-deleted upload today.

"Christmas Song"
By Mel Torme and Robert Wells

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows, a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright,
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa’s on his way,
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh,
And every mother’s child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it’s been said many times, many ways,
Merry Christmas … to you.

[Bridge]

They know that Santa’s on his way,
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh,
And every mother’s child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it’s been said many times, many ways,
Merry Christmas … to you.

My wife (my boss) said to thank you for linking to all the Christmas carols. I wasted a bunch of time on Christmas trying to find good carols on the internet to listen to. It is amazing how much junk is on the internet--pop-sounding stuff, jazzed up versions, artsy rearranged versions, and poor amateur performances. We heard several good ones from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir but most were horrible. Next Christmas we will know where to look.
