Like I said, no Mets lead of less than ten runs in the ninth is really safe. Mickey Callaway brought in a 29-year-old rookie reliever named Chris Mazza, and the Phillies beat him like a drum, scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth, before Mazza got a ground ball to second base to end it.
And so ends the Mets’ six-game losing streak. If they hadn’t won tonight, they would have fallen to .500.
