GRA: Quietest shooting ever. I was just taking the car to get some groceries when a cop car flew by at high speed—no sirens.

Later, my buddy called and said, “You’re still alive?” I said, “Yes, the cop car—I wondered if it was a shooting—or a robbery. Where did it happen?”

He told me facebook had it at a bar, but wood said “a beauty supply store.”

I don’t know about a beauty supply store, but I DO KNOW there’s a black barbershop right at that corner, so it all made sense.

grand rapids, mich. (wood) — “three people were shot in grand rapids sunday, police say.

“it happened around 5:30 p.m. at a beauty supply store in the area of Leonard street and Garfield avenue. the three people were brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the grand rapids police department said.

“grpd chief Eric Winstrom said officers are still investigating the ‘targeted incident.’ he said preliminary investigation indicates it was likely three men, and it is possible the three were shooting at each other.

[N.S.: “targeted incident” means it was black-on-black, rather than black-on-White. chief Winstrom would have described a black-on-White incident as “random.”]

“‘it’s very possible that these three individuals are the only three individuals involved in this,’ Winstrom said. ‘We have a very isolated crime scene, a lot of forensic evidence in one place and it doesn’t appear that there’s anyone unaccounted for, so it’s a real possibility that this was a situation where mutual combatants are involved.’”

“the chief said there is believed to be no danger to the community.”

GRA, sorry abut the delay. I’d completely forgotten about this story, but vaguely recalled you having filed a story during the past three weeks or so about someone miraculously intervening to stop violence in gr (and living to tell!), and thought this was was that incident. Then, while rummaging through old comments, I ran across one from 2/13, where you alluded to a story you’d posted from a day earlier, and thought this was the story about the intervention.

Can you recall roughly what day you filed the story about the intervention? Thanks in advance. Stuff piles up so fast around here!
