racist, anti-Semitic, black college president responds to criticism by tenured, Jewish professor by firing him without due process, with the naacp acting as muscle for him, costing school $1 million settlement; daily beast operative Robert McCoy blames “Republican-controlled state houses and other public bodies”! yahoo news shuts down comments, while the daily beast abolished them years ago

“As the tenure-track erodes, the stifling fear of retaliation only becomes more commonplace in academia.

“But, of course, tenure is already beyond reach for most instructors at U.S. institutions of higher learning. Over three-fifths of university faculty members, a precarious majority employed on contingent appointments, know too well how fears of running afoul of one’s employer engender self-censorship. Problematic legislation is thus just one part of the problem.

“Unchallenged, conservative efforts to gut tenure, alongside the mass casualization of the academic workforce, threaten to create an academy in which ever-unaccountable university administrations lord over an ever-docile professoriate. Such trends require steadfast opposition and academic solidarity, lest the courageous likes of Pollack-Pelzner go from endangered species to extinct.”

Is that a two-fer or a three-fer?

Since the vast majority of Americans are employed 'at will', meaning they can be fired at any time and there is simply no such thing as 'due process', I have trouble working up much sympathy on that account.

[Pollack-Pelzner’s colleagues elected him faculty trustee in 2019—a post that entailed “speak[ing] to issues of concern to the faculty and… seek[ing] and promot[ing] opportunities for faculty-trustee interaction and cooperation.” The then-tenured English professor ably undertook this role by challenging the Board of Trustees’ mishandling of sexual misconduct allegations, as well as bringing reports of antisemitism to light.]

Uh-huh -- how much time did he spend on 'mishandling of sexual misconduct allegations' vs 'reports of antisemitism'? -- both sound like important business at any academic institution.

[Motis said Jubb grabbed her and pulled her body to his as they waited in the lobby of the Michelbook Country Club after a faculty-trustee dinner in February 2019 and then continued to touch her inappropriately at a McMinnville bar afterward.]

So she (Motis) was so traumatized by the first instance of sexual abuse, she went to a bar where Jubb had a chance to do it again.

And note the sweet plea deal.

Near as I can tell, everyone involved is a junk academic in a soft, subjective discipline -- at this point, the university system in the US could shrink by 50% and nothing of value would be lost.

The alleged incident:

The reported dialogue is unintentionally funny.

Another 'woman in the workforce' doing meaningless 'work'.

Never have been able to figure out what's scientific about politics.
