Three Reasons Why Criterion Should Restore and Re-Release King Vidor’s Masterpiece, The Crowd (1930), and an Interview with him about It from The Men Who Made the Movies (1973)

Re-posted by N.S.

My favorite scene: With the unemployed father at the end of his rope, he heads off to jump off a bridge, and commit suicide. His little boy, maybe 4, runs to catch up with him, and saves his life by saying, “Mom doesn’t like you, but I like you.”

I saw this interview at the time, on Channel 13. It had a profound effect on me.

You can see there are some imaginative scenes and camera shots.
