Despite the name, it is a public school within the Akron school district -- public schools usually have attendance boundaries (my high school had an attendance boundary), and if you happen to live within that area and you send your kid to public school, it is expected that your kid will attend that school -- to avoid having your kid attend that school, it may not be as simple as registering your kid at another school, since you have to give your address -- it might be possible.

I imagine the white parents in that area are not savvy people of means.
