My late Uncle [censored] was a D.C. cop, homicide detective. He was a detective prior to being “promoted” to homicide.



He told me a story many, many years ago about a Maryland Congressman.

Guy was gay and a resident of the Eastern Shore. Had played college basketball.  

President LBJ wanted to appoint this guy to some Cabinet position.

LBJ’s political enemies knew the guy was gay.

The enemies went to the D.C. police, and got recorded evidence of the guy visiting a gay whorehouse in Northwest D.C.

My uncle provided the needed evidence.

Shortly thereafter, the Maryland Congressman withdrew from consideration for the Cabinet position. 

This was at a time when gays were still in the closet. So, being outed was political death.
