Raoul Walsh (1887-1980) made some 120 pictures during his 50-year-long, directorial career. He was famous for tough-guy pictures starring Errol Flynn (1909-1959), Jimmy Cagney (1899-1986), and Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957). His best ones were The Roaring 20s (1939), High Sierra (1941), The Strawberry Blonde (1941), Gentleman Jim (1942) and White Heat (1949).
Richard Schickel (1933-2017) was an immensely influential movie lover, critic, and historian of the picture business.
