"The Oscar-winning score of Now, Voyager, by Max Steiner, has long been sought for by fans of film music, especially Golden Age film music. Sadly, the OST has never been available commercially, nor is it known if the recording sessions exist in their complete form. To date, the only music available has been the short arrangement recorded by Charles Gerhardt in the early 70s, Steiner’s own suite of selected themes recorded in a session having nothing to do with the film itself, a selection of cues from the original sessions that were included on the Now, Voyager DVD, and a recording on acetate by Leopold Stokowski where he conducts the Hollywood Bowl Symphony performing the final scene in concert in 1945.
"Here are all those tracks assembled in one collection. The Gerhardt and Steiner tracks required little attention in preparation for this project, as they were recorded later for the purpose of vinyl release. The original cues, and in particular the Stokowski recording were in desperate need of restoration. Some things were beyond fixing based on the recorded medium and the lineage of the source material, but I think I have gotten all the tracks to work within a frame I consider “listenable.” Until those original recordings are found and made available, or until a reconstruction of the score happens....this is all we have.
"For the original cues from the DVD, the titles assigned to them were either inaccurate, assigned to the wrong cue, or placed out of order. By comparing the cues to the finished film, I was able to sort them out, correct their titles, and place them in their proper order respective to the film.
"The pictures that accompany the music are there strictly to have something to look at. My main goal was the presentation of the score."
