Remembering the late '60s
It isn't just politics; by the late 1960s, EVERYTHING was "left-wing," and normal behavior and attitudes became "conservative," "right-wing," and finally "far-right." Fashion, mass media, music, language... EVERYTHING. Growing up in that time was a nightmare. And it's unimaginably worse today, more like the End Times.

I was still a tyke in the 60s and politics, per se,wasn't a big deal for me until Ford took over as POTUS from Nixon. Grand Rapids was a White, family city and I lived in a great neighborhood--mostly Polish and conservative. No crime. I was very lucky in that respect.

I suppose we're still not allowed to voice the opinion "what happened at Kent State was groovy" ?

I was also a tyke in the 60's and was blissfully unaware of world events, Nixon is the first President I remember, and of course, his eventual downfall. Also lived in a nice White neighborhood because it was a time when the negroes were still segregated in the north part of Portland. Now they're everywhere, makes me feel sad for my kids.
