DC: Dead City
Note the time. I woke up at around 2:30 a.m.(Saturday) and have been reading Into the Darkness by Lothrop Stoddard (1940), his account of three months in early wartime Germany WW II (Jan.'39-Feb.'40). This is out of Sam Francis's personal library.
I mention this in passing only to note that there are hardly any trucks going-and-coming over the Wilson Bridge. I haven't seen an airplane going into-or-out-of National airport in over an hour. On a Saturday morning, mind you.
There is no life here. East Berlin, capital of the communist German Democratic Republic (DDR) when I spent a week there in the late Spring of 1977, had more life than DC today.
Welcome to the new USA....
