Now there's a "classic" movie I just don't like- saw it long ago, and again more recently, and had the same reaction. It was certainly influential, though, imitated a lot- and Joe Stefano did a takeoff on it for OUTER LIMITS, "The Forms of Things Unknown," originally shot as a pilot for a new series called "The Unknown"- psychological horror instead of sci-fi. The restored version, which I assume TCM is showing, features an oddity- the subtitles include adolescent boys using the "F" word, which I doubt was in the original- even though European films were more lenient than American films regarding language and nudity, I'm pretty sure that would NOT have been allowed in the 50s! That happens from time to time with new editions of older foreign films, and it's really annoying and jarring- I saw a samurai epic once where one character says to another, "You Effin' retard!" NOT authentic 17th-century patois!
I think those 7 dirty words that Carlin talked about--that wall of censorship--is coming down--thanks to Hollywood types AND politicians using them. The "F" bomb was the big one,but I see that all the time now in print from celebs--replaced by the "n" word,as the #1 taboo utterance.
So one area of censorship gets destroyed(why,I don't have a theory),but another area--words about blacks, queers and women--gets built up.
The dems, apparently, are in control of what can be said and what cannot.
I know film noirs are enjoyed on here and according to an ass(ociated)press review, the new Jodie Foster movie("A Private Life"), is such a film. Foster looks pretty rough in one clip I saw,but okay in another.
Presidents, politicians, movie stars, comedians, music and tv ain't what they used to be. That actually made me chuckle. He HATES public disagreement--even by a peon factory worker.
I seem to recall accidentally tuning into that long ago and witnessing a scene where a young boy catches him relieving himself in the bathroom and discovers he's a man. Great "family film"! I still remember the outrage when Disney decided to start making "PG" movies with "SPLASH" (mild, but with nudity and dirty jokes). We've come quite a ways since then. Jodie Foster was attractive when young but ended up pretty butch. She's "married" to David Hedison's lesbian daughter!

"Updated"--with profanity. How quaint(sarcasm).

Trump reportedly "flipped the bird" at a heckler the other day- that's got to be another "first' for a sitting president! What a classy leader!

Tonight on "ABC's Disney family movie",Mrs.Doubtfire" was on at 8 pm.
In the first fifteen minutes,I heard Sally Field yell "G-D"(not censored) and a queer say, "bit*h".
Fu**ing Disney(abc).
I never liked the flick--Robin Williams at his most irritating.

And one more G-D after that before I turned it off.
