(rt)Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said last week about 5,600 apartment buildings in Kiev – a city of roughly 3 million – were left without heating, warning the capital was nearing a “humanitarian catastrophe” and urging residents to leave.
Bakhmatov said the area he oversees is among the worst affected, as freezing temperatures have caused sewer systems to seize up, creating “dire hygienic conditions.”
