Alright, GRA, I heard you! I am not a fan of Glenn Loury, but I am a fan of Amy Wax.
My issue with Loury is also with the late James Q. Wilson. There were at least two Wilsons, whom I call Good James Q. Wilson and Bad James Q. Wilson. In 1985, Bad James Q. Wilson and Bad Richard Herrnstein co-authored a book called Crime and Human Nature, in which the chapter, "Crime and Race" was a disaster. Said chapter argued that the explosion of black violent crime in the late 1960s and 1970s was due to an explosion of White racism.
In 1975, and many reprinted and revised editions, Good James Q. Wilson had authored a comp book of updated essays and reports, Thinking about Crime, in which he was mercilessly rational and honest. For instance, at one point, he said that it is impossible to refer to social aggregates with as many pathologies as blacks have as "communities." He also argued that the typical career criminal would commit 1,000 crimes for every time he was arrested.
What explained the difference? Wilson later confessed that he had handed his ms. of "Race and Crime" to Glenn Loury (and permitted Loury to destroy it). Note that when Wilson died in 2012, Loury stabbed him in the back, without mentioning his own influence on Crime and Human Nature.

Friend of mine in law school did an assignment to find that one place in the world where the murder rate was more or less that same as Wash DC. That place was Zimbabwe [they used to call it Rhodesia]. Persons a certain demographic violent with little impulse control. As there [Africa] so here too [Wash DC].
Woke's solution is 100% artificial."Affirmative action's" synonym can be called "artificial action",that attempts to solve an artificial problem.
Not enough black pilots?Not a real problem.If blacks can't pass the normal test to be a pilot,it isn't an actual problem.
Does that make sense?
The "problem" is a problem--only to the onlookers trying to create one,by looking through a racial lens,while ignoring IQ disparities between prospective black and White pilots--or doctors etc.

On the other hand,what test is given,that apparently causes approval be given only to blacks for position of police chief in all our cities?What disqualifies Whites--is another valid question?There IS nothing,of course,to disqualify Whites from the job,but SOMETHING is,because even in Rockford,Illinois,a black female leads the city's police unit--and I'd wager a month's pay--SHE'S not the best qualified person for the job,using many criteria in deciding that fact.

GRA:On tv news these days,the word "legendary" gets falsely tossed around as much as any other lie they throw at the viewers and today it was Louis Gossett's turn to be deified.If one supporting actor role makes you legendary,then he is,but as nnn revealed,Gossett was more a legendary drug addict than actor,with an insatiable cocaine habit after "An Officer and a Gentleman's" Oscar was awarded to him.Acting roles dried up because of it.When he finally got off the coke,it was too late.
Richard Roundtree was labeled "legend" the same way,but if these two blacks were legendary,then is Timothy Hutton a legend for winning 1980's "Ordinary People"?I've never heard him described as such,though he's had a better acting resume than Gossett jr.Is Jack Albertson a legend?He won best supporting actor in 1969 and landed a role on "Chico and the Man,"but a "legend"?Freddie Prinze is the legend on that show(supposedly)for blowing his brains out at a young age.
Anyways,another nbc crowned black legend
has passed.Demond Wilson,next?
