Bat Masterson is an American Western television series which was a fictionalized account of the life of real-life marshal/gambler/dandy Bat Masterson. The title character was played by Gene Barry, and the half-hour black-and-white series ran on nbc from 1958 to 1961. The show was produced by Ziv Television Productions. “Bat” is a nickname for Masterson's first name, Bartholemew.
N.S.: This was one of the first TV shows I ever saw, probably when I was at least four or five years old, which means it would have been re-runs in 1962 or '63. I also saw Gene Barry in Burke's Law, when I was a little older. Burke's Law also had distinctive music, a brassy theme, and was set in the present. Amos Burke was a blueblood, homicide detective who would show up at crime scenes in Beverly Hills in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce.
