His (former?) American shyster asserted that his client had done nothing wrong, but that the “system,” which he claims is “broken,” was at fault, and that Hanspal was right to take advantage of the legal system.

No. To paraphrase John Adams, America was not built for frauds and swindlers. It is people like Guramrit Hanspal and William Friedman who broke the system.

“William Friedman, a lawyer who represented Hanspal, insisted that his client did nothing wrong but merely capitalized on a broken system.

”'This is the great American legal system … a man can stay in a house with one mortgage payment and he did not do anything illegal in all those 23 years,' he said.

“‘He’s the poster child for a system that has failed,’ he continued.

“‘He took advantage of the system, he used it and you’re blaming him for being bad for using the system. I don’t buy that. … He’s not a bad guy. The system is bad. He played by the rules. The system is completely broken. Every damn bit of it.”

William Friedman lied. Friedman and Hanspal are both very bad guys.

I wonder what Hanspal’s immigration status is. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that he is a naturalized immigrant, whose citizenship could legally be revoked.

In an earlier, better time, the lawful owner of the house would have paid someone to take care of Hanspal… with extreme prejudice.

Time was, a would-be immigrant had to prove that he was a White man, at least 21 years of age, and of good moral character.
