Brakes don't "go out." Even in Mexico.
Not unless you're headed down a 30 percent grade and riding the brakes the whole way.
More like criminal negligence.
Betcha the brakes hadn't been inspected in years.
Much like when you read the stories about auto accidents in this country.

Not true.
Vehicles in this country have had dual braking circuits (redundancy) for decades.
