FLINT TWP., Mich. (WJRT) - Flint Township Police say the suspect in a weekend murder and sexual assault in the Mount Pleasant area turned himself in late Monday night.

Police say 40-year-old Isaiah Gary “Zeke” Gardenhire is in custody after he traveled to the Flint area Monday in a stolen Ford Fusion.

abc12 News received a call from Gardenhire shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday, saying he wanted to turn himself in. We discovered he had traveled to Flint Township, and we were able to put him in touch with police.

Earlier in the day, the Shepherd Police Department said Gardenhire may have been spotted in their area, and committed a violent crime Monday afternoon. Details on that incident were not immediately available and police haven’t confirmed whether Gardenhire was the suspect.

As posted by Shepherd Police Department on Monday, June 7, 2021, Gardenhire was wanted for a murder and sexual assault reported around 3:15 a.m. Sunday on South Isabella Road in Union Township outside Mount Pleasant.

Michigan State Police say a juvenile female was stabbed and later died from her injuries. An adult female allegedly was sexually assaulted as part of the incident.

A warrant charged Gardenhire with murder and first-degree criminal sexual conduct [N.S.: rape].

GRA: The following is from The Morning Sun:

The man charged in last weekend’s sexual assault and homicide in a house near Jamestown Apartments is connected to a double homicide in Lansing.

Isaiah Gary Gardenhire, 40, was referred to as a suspect in a double homicide in Lansing in the criminal complaint filed by the Michigan State Police in the case file.

The complaint doesn’t mention when or where the double homicide took place, but a spokesman for the Lansing Police Department shared a press release about the city's only double homicide this year.

Two people – a woman and a man – were shot to death at approximately 1:48 a.m. on May 1 in the 600 block of the Baker Street. They were later identified in media reports as Kelsey Cross Coon-Lennon, 29, and Harley Thomas Owens, 39.

Bob Merritt, the spokesman, said he couldn’t confirm that it was the double homicide referenced in the complaint but that it's the city’s only double homicide from this year.

Gardenhire was in prison until Feb. 12, 2020.

At an arraignment hearing this week, Gardenhire yawned and repeatedly gave the middle finger, before his feed was cut off and he received only audio from the court.
