Remembering George Segal

George Segal, in Rollercoaster

My favorite George Segal movies are Lost Command (1966) and Rollercoaster (1977).

In the former, Segal played an Arab in the French Army in Indochina, who turns against France in the Algerian war, becoming a major leader of the Algerian insurgency.

In Rollercoaster, Segal plays an insurance investigator tracking down a psycho (Timothy Bottoms) planting bombs blowing up rollercoasters at amusement parks. It was one of the 70’s “disaster movies.”

Henry Fonda had a cameo as Segal’s skeptical boss. Susan Strasberg plays his girlfriend. Richard Widmark is an F.B.I. man who has a low opinion of anybody outside the Bureau. In one sequence, Bottoms has Segal running around a park with a briefcase full of payoff money, hoping to catch Bottoms, who gets the briefcase.

Widmark tongue-lashes Segal, “I had you surrounded. You can’t think under pressure.”

I think I’ll play my Blu-Ray of Rollercoaster tonight.

N.S.: How did David manage to say so much in only 146 words?!

Leno is the latest white celeb to crawl on his hands and knees and beg for forgiveness from the Woke lynch mob: https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2021/03/24/jay-leno-apologizes-for-past-jokes-about-asians-in-my-heart-i-knew-it-was-wrong/#comment-5317042189
Leno "knew it was wrong in his heart" to make jokes about Koreans eating dogs...but did it anyways! Well, they do eat dogs, so what's the problem? Apparently, it is a problem, Leno has sinned and is begging for forgiveness, proving he's just another whimpering, simpering white servile coward.

This actually reminds me of another "anti Asian" joke that didn't go over well, though with an essential difference. Some years ago, Jason Whitlock, a black sports writer, tweeted a joke about Jeremy Lin after he had scored over 30 pt. in an NBA game: Whitlock tweeted: "Some lucky lady is going to enjoy Jeremy's whole 3 inches tonight"

There was some initial backlash about his joke so Whitlock apologized, sort of...He actually defended himself by saying he's always wanted to be a stand up comedian and it was just a stand up kind of joke, so not so bad. The PC mob apparently bought it because they put their pitchforks and torches away and the whole thing quickly blew over. Whitlock was never sacked from his sportswriting gig or suffered anywhere near the backlash a white sport writer would have received. A writer named Trevor Medeiros actually addressed the double standard in this Bleacher Report article: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1064840-jeremy-lin-why-are-we-letting-jason-whitlock-off-the-hook-for-his-tweet
