Not the first time tyrannical government showed what its values are. In oregon, a family rescued a fawn and raised it. The children loved that deer but government bureuRats descended on the home and shot the deer in front of the children who loved it. If you have an animal which you love, keep quiet about it--don't put it on the internet--the evil ones will come and kill it.

If I had any hair left, I'd tear it out, seeing this dumb story posted all over the internet. A "social media star"-small wonder we have the presidential candidates we've been handed this year.
For some reason, I'm reminded of an anecdote in a recent issue of classic images magazine, about an encounter with a woman in her 20s who never heard of Cary Grant or Sophia Loren...

From "a murdered deer,"to Cary Grant and Sophia Loren,in one paragraph. Almost impossible to do--I would have bet against that type of acrobatic writing being pulled off--and I would have lost.

Never mind,I see those were two separate postings.

It is not just about saving animals--it is about the government's intrusion into every aspect of life--right down to regulating how many pounds of pressure is needed on the handle to flush your toilet (5 pounds--I used to work in architecture). But scientists are finding that consciousness or self awareness extends down to lower animals than you might think. Brain images found that a dog staring into the owner's eyes experienced the same brain chemicals released into the same part of the brain as the owner--in other words both the dog and the owner loved each other--except the dog probably loved more. I have no doubt that the owner of this squirrel dearly loved the animal--and probably the squirrel loved him back. But power-hungry small-minded bureaucrats had to prove their power by raiding their home as if it were a drug dealer's and killing the beloved animals. Anyone who thinks this kind of mindless government intrusion isn't a symptom of what is wrong in this country understands nothing.
It's not about "mindless government intrusion"- which none of us support- but about a society so dumbed-down that millions of people are watching videos of a guy and his pet squirrel on "social media", and that this incident is being treated like a major news item.
And I live in a rural area and have some realistic experience of wild animals- including squirrels- and it's NOT Disney World. Furthermore, anyone who lets their children play with deer is exposing them to Lyme disease, which is also something I've learned quite a lot about since moving here. (Tom Seaver died from it, and the late Kris Kristofferson suffered from it for many years.)
(OK, say it-"Sheesh, what a grouch!")
