Although I don’t know that White Americans have much to be thankful for.
During "A special interview with John Wayne from his Stanfield, Arizona ranch, which aired on Jan 27, 1971," Wayne told Griffin that his favorite drink was Wild Turkey, which I learned ran 101 proof. During the 1970s, the authorities (feds?), in their never-ending search for ways to vacuum money out of White tax-payers' pockets, started levying increasing "sin taxes." As they did, 100 proof whiskey went down to 86.8, and then 80 proof. Seeing as I had never seen a bottle of Wild Turkey, or an ad for it, I figured that it had either joined the procession, or gone out of business. However, while doing garbage detail for my building a few weeks ago, I discovered that a neighbor had bought Wild Turkey and some other premuium bourbons, all of which run 101 proof.
As for Wayne and his favorite drink, there's a bit of a mystery. In Scott Eyman's monumental Wayne biography, John Wayne: The Life and Legend, it says that the big cowboy's favorite drink was tequila (straight fire water). Why the conflict? Beats me.
In any event, if you search for that interview at imdb.com under "John Wayne" or "Merv Griffin," you'll never find it. I found it by punching in "John Wayne" and "Merv Griffin" at google. The special has a separate entry at imdb.com.

I echo that sentiment to N.S. and everyone else.
