Will Trump make it alive to the election? I’m starting to wonder. At some point the stars will align for some shooter, and he will succeed. Trump has to be realistic; I know he wants to live his life, be courageous and not back down or whatever, but he can’t count on a shooter’s bad aim or questionable security to keep him alive. Kennedy had that attitude and it cost him his life.

I first saw Come Next Spring as a kid during its theatrical release as a second feature in 1956, and was greatly impressed by it. (My one reservation was finding the men’s fisticuffs alien to the behavior I’d witnessed among my Jewish relatives.)

Here is the review of the film that I wrote for Netflix back in Feb. 2011. At that time they posted pseudonymous signed reviews, with each reviewer known by a particular number, I recall. However, soon afterwards Netflix initiated a sort of Communist coup by deleting all identification for every single reviewer, past and present, so that readers could no longer find other reviews by the same writer. At that point, I ceased writing reviews for them.

Come Next Spring

You rated this movie: 5.0

A lovely movie. The title phrase, repeated several times in the dialogue, is not a command but simply a variant of the saying, “When spring comes.” The story, set in rural Arkansas in 1927, concerns a man returning to the family he abandoned nine years earlier.

Matt Ballot meets the young son he never knew he had, the daughter whose muteness he caused, and the bitter wife whose love he must win all over again. There are several other neighbors whose respect he must win, as well, in this tight-knit community. Dramatic highlights include a tornado that flattens their barn; an epic fistfight at the Halloween dance between Matt and his perennial rival, Leroy Hightower (played by Sonny Tufts); and, finally, the dramatic rescue of his daughter, Annie, who is hanging on at the edge of a ravine.

Sherry Jackson gives a superb performance as the mute child, which is saying something, considering the all-round excellence of the cast.

Check the comments on IMDB for useful information on the making of the film. Suffice it to say here that it is a touching story of reconciliation and redemption. You will be happy you watched it.

P.S.: I am amazed to see only one other N*****x member review of this wonderful film. (By contrast, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to date has garnered 1650.) A DVD release on Criterion would be ideal.

N.S.: IMDB called the following “trivia,” but I don’t find anything trivial about it.

“Republic Pictures didn’t give this film a proper release, instead dropping it onto the lower half of a double bill, prompting The Hollywood Reporter to run an item declaring, ‘Wake up, Republic. You have another Marty (1955) on your hands... Or don’t you care?’”

Just before 2 p.m., the assassin was waiting for the President, about two holes ahead of where he was playing. The secret service saw a rifle sticking out of a tree and engaged with the perp. He somehow got away, got into his car and because a witness saw the car (a black nissan) and photographed the license plate, police later apprehended him on the highway.

An ak-47 weapon was recovered at the golf course.

Ryan Wesley Routh is the name of the assassin. He’s 58.

Not only is baseball woke, but it’s become boring

GRA: I used to bet on baseball years ago (pretty successfully), and in July, I decided I would try it again. I don’t watch the national pastime much (I dumped cable), but pay attention to statistics. All I can say is, there are too many asians and mexicans in the sport (woke), however, what I was surprised to discover, with my reintroduction to baseball is this:

Except for 7 players with .300+ batting averages—no one can hit. Judge and Ohtani are the big home run names—and, yes, there are 12 more with at least 30 Hrs—but the .242 average both leagues have, as a composite, is lousy.

Worse, yet, it’s boring. There are way too many 1-2-3 innings and low-scoring games. You can probably hear crickets at most baseball stadiums, because of the lack of offense. Could you see football being popular if 80% of their games were 10-7 scores?

Is this just the same trend that has overtaken other entertainment areas, such as comedy, movies, or music, where great performers have literally dropped to numbers you can count on one hand?

Seinfeld, Steve Martin, Martin Short—all over 70.

What is going on with our country? No one has replaced the greats of the 1960s, 70s, 80s or 90s.

It’s quite amazing to see this country fall apart in every aspect of the excellence we used to enjoy—and I must add baseball to the critical list.

My number one reason for the decline? The push to get rid of Whites, and replace them with minorities.

“(clickonhouston) Houston – Houston police are searching for whoever injured [sic] six people and killed three in a drive-by shooting on Houston’s northeast side.

“it happened around 2:30 a.m. saturday at the intersection of Laura Koppe and Lockwood. that’s where police said there was some type of block [read: gang] party – and someone drove by and fired shots into the crowd.

“police say the three men who were killed were in their early 20s. the third fatality wasn’t reported until saturday night.

“one man, who didn’t want to be identified was working his food truck when it happened.

“‘I literally watched it, in front of my truck,’ he told kprc 2 reporter T.J. Parker.

“Keidron Taylor talked with us after he left the hospital. he says his foot was grazed with a bullet.

“‘just a regular hangout, until things went left,’ says Taylor.
