Sam Peckinpah’s Brilliant but Short-Lived 1960 TV Series, The Westerner, is Back...for Now! Episode 8: “The Old Man”

Re-posted by N.S.

A few years ago, I re-posted most of the series’ 13 episodes, until the KK (Kopyright Kops) swooped in and cancelled the poster.

Said poster was KOZY-TV. And he’s back. Usually, when google’s Gauleiter cancels someone, he never comes back under his old name. Just ask Fred Riesberg (presently known as Soundtrack Fred), one of the giants of the Internet, whom google has cancelled at least twice. Each time he came back, but he had to use a new handle, and re-post hundreds of classic movie musical scores.

So catch this, while you still can. You’ll be glad you did.

“Although more well known for his films, legendary director Sam Peckinpah created, wrote and produced this short-lived TV series in 1960 and directed five of the episodes in the series.

“In this episode, Dave is about to make camp and take a rest, but Brown has a splinter in his forepaw.

“A gunshot rings out nearby, but Dave pays only a little attention to it... —Brian Keith stars in the role of Dave Blassingame, a cowboy and drifter [“saddle tramp”] who is handy with a gun and his fists, traveling through an often lawless country trying to get enough money together to buy his own ranch.

His dog Brown is played by Spike, trained by Frank Weatherwax and best known for playing the title role in Old Yeller.

“Brown figures prominently in a number of episodes, appears in all of them, and always appears following Blassingame during the end credits. --From wikipedia
