TCM’s Film Noir of the Week Returns with Roy Ward Baker’s Don’t Bother to Knock (1952), Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at Midnight and 10 a.m. ET with Richard Widmark, Marilyn Monroe, Anne Bancroft, Elisha Cook Jr., Jim Backus and Lurene Tuttle.
Film Noir Guide: “The setting is a large New York hotel. Monroe is a suicidal mental patient whom the hotel’s elevator operator (Cook) has referred to hotel guests (Backus and Tuttle) as a reliable baby sitter. Widmark plays the callous boyfriend of the hotel’s torch singer (Bancroft), who has just given him the boot. Depressed, Widmark hooks up with Monroe and attempts a little hanky panky, but she starts calling him by her dead boyfriend’s name, and he rightly suspects that she’s not all there.
“This is an exciting little thriller, tightly scripted and well acted (especially by Monroe). Bancroft, in her film debut, manages to look more glamorous than the dowdy Monroe (sans makeup).”

So she played herself in other words...lol.
I haven't seen a Monroe movie in years--or any film--except for NSU theater--since I dumped cable 2 years ago.

Marilyn was a psycho
TCM's Film Noir of the Week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at Midnight and 10 a.m. ET is Arthur Ripley's Thunder Road (1958) with Robert Mitchum, Gene Barry, Keely Smith, and James Mitchum.
Thunder Road isn't in Film Noir Guide. The story takes place in Tennessee (filmed in North Carolina). The film was loosely based on an incident in which a moonshine driver crashed to his death om Kingston Pike on the west side of Knoxville, Tennessee. The story was passed on to Mitchum, who saw a perfect "vehicle" for himself playing the driver.
James Mitchum, Robert's son, plays his younger brother, who Mitchum doesn't want to become a driver. Mitchum wanted Elvis Presley, who was eager to play the part, but Elvis' manager asked for too much money.
Red Eddie Muller shows a good one for a change. One error. A character refers to "North Tennessee." In the Volunteer state, it's East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and West Tennessee. Mitchum's family and friends are supposed to be in East Tennessee with Mitchum running liquor to Memphis.
