Marlon Perkins--from "Wild Kingdom"-- talking to Jim Fowler:
Marlon:Notice the variously sized tarantulas on the heads of these primates,Jim.
Jim:This is unusual in the animal kingdom Marlon, but not unheard of. Some animals--either willingly or unwillingly--are hosts for other species.
Marlon:Are the primates that the tarantulas are attached to,endangered species,Jim?
Jim:Unfortunately no,Marlon. The "Africanus forcius penetratus" is plentiful in many major cities like Chicago,New York and Detroit--even,unfortunately--here in Utah.
Marlon:Not everything in the animal kingdom is wondrous,Jim.
Jim:And this is example #1.
Marlon:Next week,I'll send Jim to Chicago to observe the "Africanus forcius penetratus" in its favorite environment--after dark--on a weekend,in a Southside neighborhood.
Jim:The HELL you will--I QUIT!
Marlon:'Til then,good night everyone.
Jim:I'm NOT going.I'll walk into a lions den or swim with sharks --unprotected--but I draw the line at...
Utah. Even there. I say that over and over. The virus spreads to all areas of the country and the world. In 200 years the predominant whitey population USA will be Mormon, Amish and Hasidic Joo.
Maybe Wilber [Romney] can do some Mormon preaching to the boyz.
All three men have been behind bars since the September of 2017 sexual assault back when the initial charges were filed.
The rape happened in Sep 2017, and they've all been in jail since then; apparently the case was delayed due to COVID (that's the excuse given anyway).
So they have all been jailed for 4.5 years already.
Under a plea deal, Djassera pleaded guilty to felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, after attorneys had argued there was no evidence that he had sex with the victim. Meanwhile, both Leclair and Albasis pleaded guilty to a reduced count of felony second-degree rape, KSL.com reported.
So after all that time in jail, they take a plea deal (which usually results in a lighter sentence) -- ?
When handing down the sentences, Hogan noted the substantial amount of time that has passed since the charges were filed, blaming part of the delay on the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the lawyers involved had "done an extraordinary job" at litigating the case and balancing each side's concerns.
OK, if you say so.
According to police, the teenage victim sneaked out of a sleepover at a friend's house to meet up with the three men on Sept. 8, 2017, as arranged on Snapchat.
Hall of fame parenting -- 14 y/o, sneaks out to meet up with adult men -- drinks alcohol -- becomes intoxicated -- is raped, and it's now on film -- social media is a curse.
Even considering the substantial amount of time already spent behind bars (4.5 years), the sentences (48 months) seem low -- but that is probably part of the plea deal, as is suspending the sentences.
To me the real story here is how plea deals have corrupted criminal justice generally, and sentencing in particular -- most Americans don't know that the vast majority of criminal cases are resolved this way: by getting a defendant to plead guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for a reduced sentence, often greatly reduced.
Of course there is risk when going to trial -- but I also think lawyers are lazy and they would rather avoid the work and trouble of a trial, as well as the risk.
