Apart from the running events, the summer olympics are like that too. How many people outside the first world have a chance to discover their innate talent for swimming? Pole vault? Pommel Horse?
But I'll grant you the winter games have more truly niche events. My favorite is the one that combines skiing with shooting.

That's what the blacks say--and DO.

If you remember the Val Kilmer movie, Top Secret, they had a sequence of "surf and skeet" in which the kids ran out of high school with their shotguns and proceeded to shoot while riding in on surf boards. I thought the writer or director really missed a chance later in the movie when people needed rescue--what a chance to have these surfers as commandos surfing in with guns to save the day. A really silly movie, but pretty funny in spot.

Why do you say that? -- you often post 'links' (albeit many as plain text), and never give explicit credit -- so why do it here? -- by posting a link, you're already giving credit to the site which published the content, right? -- if you want to thank Unz for something, thank him for allowing you to post the entire comment verbatim, since as I recall when you comment on the Unz site you're explicitly told the comment becomes the property of Unz/his site -- but I don't think that's really necessary either.

As for the comment:

>My favorite is the one that combines skiing with shooting.

He's either lying or being sarcastic -- because he's talking about biathlon, which is a very boring spectator sport -- but biathletes are probably among the best conditioned athletes at the Winter Olympics: the men's race is 20km (> 12 miles), and the women's is 15km (> 9 miles) -- maybe only speed skaters who do the 10km race (> 6 miles) have to train as hard/be as cardiovascularly fit.

This kind of dumb shit is why I stopped paying any attention whatsoever to Sailer and the comments there.
