If you’re a White or Asian, and a black man starts terrorizing you in public, the cops will re-write your description in front of you as “You had a verbal dispute.” That is, if you’re lucky.
I recall a cop pulling that on me in May, 2011. I responded, “No. A ‘verbal dispute’ is when one guy’s a Yankees fan, and the other one’s a Mets’ fan.”
And that was a sympathetic, burly, Indian cop doing front desk duty who, when the would-be attacker chased my and my then 11-year-old, future chief of research into the station, had a couple of uniforms physically throw the racist thug out of the station.
The Indian cop had ordered the thug (probably a drug dealer) out of his house, but the mope refused, whereupon the cop said, “What, did I stutter?,” and got the uniforms to help him out.
The story contradicts the headline, claiming that the four-year-old was the daughter of one of the wounded women.
The one good aspect of this news story, is that the increasingly pc daily mail actually identified the perp.
• Two women and a child were shot shortly before 5pm Saturday in Times Square

Three innocent bystanders, including a four-year-old girl, were hit by stray bullets in Times Square in broad daylight, in a shocking shooting that sent tourists stampeding in panic.
NYPD officers responded to the shooting at 4.55pm on Saturday near the intersection of West 44th Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan, in the heart of Times Square.
The young girl was struck in the leg, a 24-year-old woman was hit in her thigh and a 44-year-old woman was shot in the foot, police said. All are expected to survive.
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said none of the victims were related or known to each other, and that they are believed to be innocent bystanders who were struck by stray bullets after a man got into an argument with someone else and began shooting wildly.
The younger adult woman was a tourist visiting from Rhode Island, the older one a New Jersey resident, and the child lives in Brooklyn, and was shopping for toys with her parents, Shea said.
The tourist from Rhode Island had traveled to Manhattan visit the Statue of Liberty, but finding the ferry closed decided to visit Times Square instead, Shea said.
A traffic camera on the scene caught the moment that the crowd of tourists fled in terror as the shots rang out.
NYPD investigators recovered three shell casings at the scene, which appear to be .25 caliber, Commissioner Shea said.
The shooting unfolded after two to four men got into a dispute [?!], and at least one of the men pulled out a gun and began firing, Shea said.
He said that none of the victims who were shot were involved in the dispute, and that they all appeared to be innocent bystanders.
Mayor Bill de Blasio reacted to the shooting on Twitter, saying he was glad the victims were in stable condition.
“The perpetrators of this senseless violence are being tracked down and the NYPD will bring them to justice,” he tweeted. “The flood of illegal guns into our city must stop.”
De Blasio, who was celebrating his 60th birthday on Saturday, did not join the police commissioner for a press conference at the shooting scene.
Asked about de Blasio’s remarks, Commissioner Shea said that his officers have been taking guns off the streets at an “alarming rate over the past two years.”
“It’s time now that we have consequences for those,’ he added, seeming to refer to bail reform policies that see many suspects, including those caught with illegal firearms, walk free without posting cash bond.
“How many more kids do we need to be shot before we realize that bad policies have consequences?” said Shea. “We need action, and we need policies regarding laws to have consequences.”
Police dispatchers said the suspected shooter fled westbound on 44th Street on foot.
The suspect is described as a black [!] male with short dreadlocks, wearing a zip-up hoodie and a white soccer jersey bearing the number nine.
Witnesses said that the shooting took place near the Minskoff Theater, the home of the long-running hit musical The Lion King.
The musical is not currently playing on Broadway due to pandemic restrictions, but in recent months tourists have begun returning to Times Square.
It comes as gun violence soars in New York City, and marks the second time in a month that bullets have flown in Times Square, the crowded tourist hotspot.
Last month, a tourist from Kansas City was shot in the shoulder by a stray bullet near Times Square.
So far this year, shooting incidents in New York City are up 83 percent from last year, and 94 percent from 2019, according to NYPD data.
Murders are up 16 percent on the year and 32 percent from 2019.
Police say they believe Ruby was not the intended target of the shooting, and that he was simply caught in the crossfire.
Purported gang member Brannovan Martinez, 21, was arrested over the incident on the day of the shooting and has been charged with assault, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment. He has multiple prior arrests for drugs and assaults.
Ruby says he saw the suspect appear to aim his gun toward someone else before he was accidentally struck.
Developing story, more to follow.

The argument. The exchange of words. The dispute. The quarrel. Etc. Those people sure do argue a lot.
And correct, when they say an argument, that to an extent means BOTH parties are to blame.
