TCM’s Film Noir of the Week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at Midnight and 10 a.m. ET is Phil Karlson’s The Brothers Rico (1957) with Richard Conte, Dianne Foster, Larry Gates, Paul Picerni and James Darren.

Film Noir Guide: “Conte, a former accountant for the mob, is now a legitimate businessman. He and his wife (Foster), unable to have children, are desperately trying to adopt. The adoption process comes to a screeching halt when Conte’s kid brothers (Picerni and Darren), who recently performed a hit for their boss (Gates), ask for Conte’s help because they’re afraid that Gates now wants THEM dead. Not a lot of action here, but Conte is excellent as usual. Teen idol Darren went on to star in the TV sci-fi series The Time Tunnel.”

David in TN: Last week in his intro for Touch of Evil, Eddie Muller said again, “In my heart, I preferred Ricardo Montalban,” but said, “Touch of Evil was made because of one man, Charlton Heston.”

TCM has a bonus Saturday evening at 4:30 p.m. ET with John Boorman's Point Blank (1967), Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson star in the “dreamy” revenge drama. The best segment is when Angie, wearing a miniskirt, goes into the mob hotel, distracting the guards, while Marvin sneaks in to kill his treacherous former partner.

You wonder if Angie Dickinson played this scene out in real life, going into a hotel (or a certain large house) to meet a powerful man.

Angie's lucky she could walk after age 55,as much pounding as she took in the years from about 1957 to 1987.

TCM's Film Noir of the Week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at Midnight and 10 am ET is Fred Zinnemann's Act of Violence (1949) with Van Heflin, Robert Ryan, Mary Astor, Phyllis Thaxter, Berry Kroeger.

Film Noir Guide: "Heflin, a war veteran, and pillar of the community, has a dark secret. While a prisoner in a German P.O.W. camp, he betrayed his men's escape plans. Believing he would be saving lives, he instead caused his friends to be bayoneted by German soldiers and left for dead. Of the eleven escapees, only the disabled Ryan has survived and now he's out for revenge. Heflin's wife (Leigh), though shocked by her husband's past, stands by her man, and Ryan's girl (Thaxter) tries in vain to convince hers to give up his deadly mission. Astor is excellent as the whore with a heart who, in a misguided attempt to help Heflin, unwittingly hooks him up with a vicious hit man (Kroeger). Heflin gives a bravura performance as the guilt-ridden veteran who seeks redemption in a final act of atonement, and Ryan is convincingly sinister as the limping, avenging angel. A film noir classic."

Eddie Muller picked Act of Violence for Memorial Day Weekend. In last week's outro he called it a perfect noir.

By the way, TCM shows The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) tonight (Friday) at 12:15 am.
