The Sidney Powell Story Gets Curiouser and Curiouser

I Told You Powell was a Phony. Now She’s Trying to Get Out of a Lawsuit

GRA: When I went on her website and was forwarded to a collection of her books to buy, my fraud-o-meter went off the charts.

(Cleveland News)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A former lawyer for Donald Trump who made several false claims of voter fraud in regard to the 2020 presidential election is now arguing that “no reasonable person” would have believed her conspiracy theories.

Lawyers for Sidney Powell make the argument in a court filing in hopes of getting a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit filed against her by Dominion Voting Systems dismissed, CNN reports. Dominion filed the lawsuit in January.

“Even [assuming] that each of the statements alleged in the Complaint could be proved true or false, no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact,” the filing says, according to Business Insider.

Powell claimed that Dominion voting machines were rigged to switch votes for Trump to Joe Biden, his Democratic challenger, during the election. There is no evidence any vote-switching occurred in what experts have called the most secure election in U.S. history.

[GRA: I don’t believe that, either.]

According to CNN, Powell was sharing her “opinions” on the election and that people were free to come to their own conclusions. Powell made several public and TV appearances pushing the false claims. She lost every lawsuit she filed in making the false claims, Buzzfeed reports.

“Indeed, Plaintiffs themselves characterize the statements at issue as ‘wild accusations’ and ‘outlandish claims,” the filing says. “They are repeatedly labeled ‘inherently improbable’ and even ‘impossible.’ Such characterizations of the allegedly defamatory statements further support Defendants’ position that reasonable people would not accept such statements as fact but view them only as claims that await testing by the courts through the adversary process.”

GRA: Either she was nuts, was paid off and has now changed her tune or was plain ignorant of how the swamp would get her, but I could tell she wasn’t kosher. I think some chicanery occurred, but could not be proven, since overwhelmingly, the computer software used, was controlled by Democratically run corporations—and they covered their tracks.

GRA, I said all I’m presently prepared to say about this crazy case in my headline.

Strike that. On Election Night or a day later, as I was watching Fox News, one of the hosts or talking heads said she just saw Trump vote numbers briefly going down, while Biden numbers went up, and another host or talking head confirmed having seen the same thing. (I didn’t see anything at the time, because I was taking notes.)

I recall seeing reports a few years back about how Philippine's President Rodrig Duterte was "courting" China and rebuffing the US....Things appear to have changed dramatically: https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/03/25/philippines-top-diplomat-we-must-have-the-courage-to-demand-u-s-military-attack-china/

Here Duterte sings the praises of China: https://cnnphilippines.com/news/2020/6/10/Philippines-China-diplomatic-relations.html

A little later this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/duterte-gets-tough-on-china-leaning-back-to-old-ally-us/ar-BB19keHs

I even predicted that this would happen. Whatever Duterte naively thought about China has been demolished by the reality that China is not their friend but a large powerful aggressive neighbor bent on being the dominant economic and military power in the Pacific, and will use whatever means necessary, to achieve that goal. Whatever criticism of the US they had in the past seems petty in face of China's aggressive moves to expand their territorial borders. That's not something smaller countries bordering China have to deal with when they do business with the US. I've always said, and will say it again, the Pacific nations will ultimately far prefer the US as an economic partner in the region than China, the US might be a powerful influence but China will simply obliterate them with their massive economy and utter disregard for national borders and self identity, something they proved with their invasion of the independent nation of Tibet.
I have my criticisms of Trump but he was right to challenge China and the economic war it's waging against us but too many multinational corporations and billionaires are making money with China and they couldn't let Trump cost them anymore. So China appeasing Biden is in and Trump is out. What happens now to the smaller neighbors that China is bullying and intimidating? Does the US ignore them to keep the short term profits flowing from China? IMHO, dealing with China is possibly the most important issue that's getting almost zero media coverage, they have huge investments in the US but are still a hostile power and present a much bigger threat than the old Soviet Union ever did. Playing nice to them will accomplish nothing, they will take advantage of every weakness and work it to their advantage.
