Current events don't repeat but they rhyme.
Both Angela Merkel and George W. Bush are suddenly making more noise, whereas before they were almost forgotten.
Why?
Bush can't be President again. However, he could be trying to rehab his own reputation and his family's in order to give his brother or the next generation a chance at bigger things.
OTOH, there is no such restriction on Angela Merkel. Even though there is little real political difference between she and Fred Merz, they have a long personal rivalry and axes to grind with each other going back to the turn of the century. And Merz is definitely flailing, and taking his (and her) party with him. I get the feeling that she's plotting coming out of retirement and a comeback to "save the CDU" and especially from the AfD.
Dubya was reading at Cheney's wake today. I saw a few sentences.
"Uhh,great vice president. We were going through VP candidates together in 2000 and then after a while,I figured,uhh,this Dick guy,is the best choice--and uhhh,he's sitting right next to me."(paraphrase)
"After that,he did the actual running of the country and I showed up for comedy relief."(Not even close to what he said,lol).
Dubya still insists he made decisions...allll by himself.
