It was the bottom of the second inning in miami when I turned on the mets-marlins game. Sean Manaea was on the mound for us. He was our ace last year, but he got hurt in spring training this year, missed over half the season, and has been a bust, since he came back. Two out, and he loses the strike zone. He walks two guys, and Mendoza comes out, and pulls him for a right-hander.
That's the way it's been today. The mets have to win, and the reds have to lose, or our season is over.
Since removing Manaea, Mendoza has run through at least seven pitchers, and after a fourth inning choke job by Ryne Stanek, going into the bottom of the eighth, the mets are down, 4-0.

That line-up,getting shut out, when the season is on the line is a travesty. Whatever hundreds of millions they spent on this team's salary was a waste. 83-79 doesn't cut it.

Newsy news fading away so fast today.
Cross off the Mets - and Eric Adams, too - if we hadn't already done so.
A bye week for UNC. Coach Hudson and her husband went to Nantucket.
Hurricanes heading into the mid-Atlantic but Daily Fail still shows panicky headline "Monster double hurricanes Humberto and Imelda to dump 'life-threatening' floods across East Coast". Dejected AccuWeather is reduced to rerunning the same old 2024 Helene footage.
Intriguing "Total chaos backstage at Wheel of Fortune!" but Daily Fail hid it behind a paywall.
And I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but here's hoping for a federal government shutdown starting Wednesday.
I'm with ya,A T. The hurricane slumber party is pretty funny stuff. The "experts" are blaming it on "sand from the middle east carrying into the Atlantic, choking potential hurricanes into tiny drops of rain"(and mud,I assume)--as if that never happened before.
THEY'RE b.s.'ers too.

ALONSO WANTS OUT METSVILLE,WILL TEST FREE AGENT MARKET
(cbs sports)New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso told reporters following Sunday's season finale against the Miami Marlins that he intends to opt out his contract this winter and test free agency. Alonso's announcement came after the Mets were eliminated from postseason contention.
"Playing for this organization, this city, they've continued to believe in me. I've loved playing here," he said. "There's some great guys in this clubhouse, there's some great people on the staff. Every single day, it's been a pleasure coming to work and putting on the orange and blue. I've really appreciated it and have been nothing but full of gratitude every single day. Nothing is guaranteed, but we'll see what happens. I've loved being a Met. Hopefully, they've appreciated me the same."
(GRA:He's disgusted and wants out.)
The Mets needed both to beat the Marlins and have the Cincinnati Reds lose against the Milwaueke Brewers. Unfortunately for them, they were unable to overcome a 4-0 deficit against the Marlins, rendering the Reds' 4-2 loss to the Brewers irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
GRA:Getting Soto was irrelevant.

Mestizo's payroll,340 million dollars this year. Not enough--or not well spent? I'll go with b.

(Fantasy Football):NAMATH'S RETURN IN SECOND HALF LEADS THE JETS TO A 28-27 COMEBACK VICTORY OVER THE MIAMI DOLPHINS--SOMETHING JUSTIN FIELDS COULD NEVER HAVE DONE
GRA:Strong armed Joe Namath took over from untalented free agent Justin Fields, leading the New York Jets to a thrilling 28-27 win over the Miami Dolphins.
The Jets managed only 3 points in the first half and trailed 10-3,when Aaron Glenn, the rookie head coach, saw the #1 draft choice from Alabama,60 years ago,on the sidelines, throwing 50 yard passes from his NFL approved wheelchair and told him to go in.
Under new rules this year, former quarterbacks, age 70 and older, are allowed to play again--in wheelchairs--pushed by an extra player.
Namath's first pass was a 22 yard laser to Garrett Wilson, followed by a beautiful screen pass that Breece Hall grabbed for 33 yards, setting up the Jets first touchdown--a quarterback sneak by Namath from the one yard line
Miami retook a two touchdown lead, but the Jets defense clamped down, allowing the 80 year old Joe Willie, to lead the Jets to two fourth quarter scores--and a two point conversion as the game clock ran out--to seal the win.
"I want to thank my 'driver',Josh Reynolds, for putting me in position to make the plays and eluding the pass rush and the offensive line and entire offensive unit. It's geat to be back!"
When Reynolds was asked what it felt like to be Namath's legs,he responded,"I hear I'm like Mark was to Ironside on that old tv show--that's what Joe Namath told me."
The Jets improved to 1-3 with the win.
In real life, the Jets(and Justin Fields) were just bad enough to lose by 6.

(Fantasy football)JUSTIN FIELDS WILL START,JOE NAMATH IS IN THE BULLPEN("I JUST NEED A LITTLE MORE TIME TO WARM UP THESE DAYS") FOR THIS WEEK'S GAME VS DALLAS
GRA:After last week's memorable come from behind win against Miami,in which legendary quarterback Joe Namath "wheeled" the Jets to victory,Jets' coach Aaron Glenn announced his strategy for this week's game on Sunday.
"We play Dallas,so I'm starting Fields and if needed,I send the old pro in."
It's a home game and seats are going for ten times their normal price, but fans are paying it,to catch a glimpse of 80 year old Joe Namath throw touchdown passes--or any passes at all.
"I'm thankful for the new rule(allowing over 70 year old qbs to use a wheelchair--pushed by a player) and that my arm is still as strong as it was forty years ago. You know my new proverb,'where there's a wheel, there's a way'. Now if you'll excuse me,I have to go pose for a magazine called "Playgirl for Grannies".
Game time is 1 pm.
