"cuban officials on friday said that Joanne Chesimard, who was convicted of killing a New Jersey state trooper, has died in havana decades after breaking out of prison and escaping to the communist island.
"cuba's ministry of foreign affairs said that Chesimard, who was born JoAnne Deborah Byron and was also known as Assata Olugbala Shakur, passed away after living there for years under asylum granted by the cuban government.
"'on september 25, 2025, American citizen Joanne Deborah Byron, ‘Assata Shakur,’ passed away in havana, cuba, due to health conditions and advanced age,' the ministry's statement said.

Assata Shakur — a New Jersey fugitive who escaped prison and fled to Cuba after being convicted in the murder of a police officer — has died from health complications.

"For years, we have worked with the State Department to bring Chesimard back to New Jersey, so she could face justice for the cold-blooded murder of an American hero," both said in a joint statement. "Sadly, it appears she has passed without being held fully accountable for her heinous crimes."
"We mourn Trooper Foerster’s loss every day, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his widow, Rosie, their son, Eric, and the entire New Jersey State Police family," they added. "Unlike his killer, Trooper Foerster never had a chance to live out his days in peace. But we remain fully committed to honoring his memory and sacrifice. We will vigorously oppose any attempt to repatriate Chesimard’s remains to the United States."
Chesimard, who regarded herself as a godmother and step-aunt to late rapper Tupac Shakur, was added to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists List in 2013.
She was a member of the black liberation army, which the FBI describes as "one of the most violent militant organizations of the 1970s." The bla was a spin-off of the racist, cop-killing black panthers by members who considered the panthers insufficiently radical.

For years, many of us have raised concerns over the political weaponization of the New York legal system from the civil fraud case against the Trump company by New York Attorney General Letitia James to the criminal prosecution by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The popularity of these lawfare warriors shows how a dual legal system has taken hold in the city. That was never more evident than in the outrageous decision of Bragg to drop the case against Brianna J. Rivers, 30, who assaulted a pro-life advocate in a case of political violence. The refusal to prosecute Rivers is only the latest example of enabling those who turn to violence in our political system.
Rivers was captured on videotape attacking Craven Antao after she asked Rivers questions about abortion and repeated her answers.
New York police arrested Rivers in April on one count of second-degree assault. Prosecutors had this videotape that showed no provocation or excuse for the violent attack. Antao had to go to emergency room for stitches and pay $3,000 in medical bills.
Nevertheless, Bragg’s office first downgraded the charge from second-degree assault to a misdemeanor and has now dropped the case entirely. He is just going to let Rivers walk after an act of political violence captured on film.
According to reports, Braggs’ office missed a critical deadline to turn over evidence. However, this came after the office downgraded the case and then threw up its hands after missing the deadline. It is either a case of intentional scuttling or a lack of priority given an allegation of political violence. The most that Braggs’ office can claim is that it is incompetent.

(Breitbart)The leftist Chicago Teachers Union is honoring the life of a woman convicted of killing a police officer in the 1970s.
In a social media post on Friday, the union shared an image of Assata Shakur, who was born as Joanne Deborah Chesimard, calling her a “revolutionary fighter.”
“Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur. Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle,” the organization said.
“Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that ‘It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains,'” the post reads.
