ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI – A 15-year-old girl who allegedly stole a Glock pistol and two loaded magazines from her mother’s safe is accused of plotting a mass shooting at Allegan High School.(GRA:41 miles south of Grand Rapids,White rural city of 5,000).
Mya Barron allegedly wrote online that she would ram her father’s vehicle – loaded with gasoline and fireworks – through the cafeteria windows by putting a cinderblock on the gas pedal.
She allegedly said she believed the vehicle would explode in the cafeteria.
“If it does, that should cause enough chaos for me to get in, shoot the cop in the lunch room, and just go trigger happy on anyone I see,” Allegan police said in a written arrest affidavit.
Barron, charged as an adult, was arraigned Thursday, Sept. 25, by Allegan County District Judge Christopher Burnett on charges of safe breaking, a potential life offense; false report or threat of terrorism, a potential 20-year felony, and two lesser counts involving the firearm.
Barron is held in the Allegan County Juvenile Center.
The judge set bond at $75,000. If she posts bond, she must be supervised by an adult at her home around-the-clock.
Her attorney said that she had no previous criminal record and asked that she be released to “continue with her support system, rather than remain in isolation.”
According to the affidavit, the FBI field office in Detroit contacted Allegan police on Sept. 19 to report a threat toward Allegan Public Schools. The FBI did a search for the IP address and provided police with the address of her parents’ house.
The officer and a sergeant responded to the house and told her mother they needed to talk to her daughter. She brought her daughter outside to the porch to talk to police.
“I advised her of the messages we received and read them to her that her base plan was to ‘get my mom’s Glock firearm, a few cans of gasoline, and a f--- ton of fireworks.”
She allegedly said she would douse the fireworks with gasoline and throw a match or lighter in back. She said she would put the vehicle in reverse, with a cinder block on the accelerator, and crash it through the cafeteria wall, with mostly windows, the affidavit said.
She said she would probably carry out the plan before her Sept. 20 birthday, the affidavit said.
