N.S.: Not only is this one of the greatest commercials ever made, but it holds a very special place in my heart.

I made it through school at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen on a “Daimler Scholarship.”

I did many jobs to earn a living, including tossing decomposed mice and rats in garbage barrels, and washing their containers in a huge, industrial Hobart dish washing machine at a Max Planck Institut in summer 1982, but I mainly worked my way through school on the assembly line at the Daimler factory in Sindelfingen, West Germany, during school vacation periods between early 1981 and July, 1985. (In summer, 1982, Daimler refused to hire me. The next time my West German girlfriend got hired there, she took me along, and asked the young personnel man, “Und haben Sie was für meinen Freund?” “And do you have something for my boyfriend?” That was the last time I had any trouble getting holiday work.)
