The ghost of der Bingle is now a real ghost: Joe Flaherty is dead at 82, though the new york post has its doubts

A young Joe Flaherty, at least as young as I could find him

[“Woody Allen on Rick Moranis’ victimization by a raceless, full-time sucker-punch bi—h, and Rick Moranis on Woody Allen! Exclusive, at WEJB/NSU!”]

Happy Gilmore and Freaks and Geeks star [sic] dead at 82”

“comedian Joe Flaherty, a founding member of the canadian sketch series SCTV, has died. He was 82.”

“Flaherty’s daughter, Gudrun, confirmed the news to variety in a statement through the comedic artists alliance, claiming he died monday after a brief illness.”

Claiming is what you say when you don't believe a report. Erin Keller and her unname, unindicted editors should have said,

Flaherty’s daughter, Gudrun, confirmed the news to variety in a statement through the comedic artists alliance, announcing he died monday after a brief illness.

Play It Again, Bob.” Flaherty doesn't appear as the ghost of der Bingle until Part II, but you have to see Part I, in order to get gist of it. “Episode aired oct 31, 1980.”

I recommend a great youtube video of Rick Moranis as Woody Allen and Dave Thomas as Bob Hope, in their second city spoof, “Play it Again, Bob.”

The impersonations are magnificent.

Play It Again, Bob (Part 1 of 2)

SCTV

“Woody sees a Hope film and is inspired to give him a call. Hope happens to be in town doing a show with the Village People so they get together. Hope suggests some rewrites of Woody’s script.”

Play It Again, Bob (Part 2 of 2)

SCTV

“Woody realizes Hope has him writing a road picture and feels he’s losing control. Bing Crosby appears to give Woody some encouragement and tips on handling Hope. Woody calls Hope to do 9 or 10 holes before breakfast, on him. But the golf game doesn’t go so good. In the end, Woody goes with the flow.

“‘Stick with me and the only thing that will make you sick is standing on solid ground.”

N.S.: This part is even better than the first. Adding der Bingle, and doing him so well (who was that?) was sublime!

Today: That was the late Joe Flaherty, may he rest in peace.

No kidding. My estimate had him around 42 at the time of "Play It Again,Bob",so add 40 years or thereabouts and...sure enough, you get 82 and he's smoking his pipe with Bing on "The Afterlife Tonight Show".I never fathomed Flaherty being NEAR 80 when I reported the video here two years ago.

Amazing.
