Noir Alley: Tight Spot (1955) “Intro” 20211128
Eddie Muller’s “intros” tend to be vastly superior to his “outros.” The latter are all too frequently statements of political loyalties and enmities that have little or nothing to do with reality or artistic value.
He’ll take cheap shots at someone, merely because the latter was an anti-Communist, and idealize someone, merely because he was a Communist. Oh, and he’ll tell “graylisting” and blacklisting lies, e.g., nobody was a card-carrying Communist; they were all just “alleged” Communists. That’s why I call Muller, Red Eddie.
Noir Alley: Tight Spot (1955) “Outro” 20211128
There was no “graylisting”; C.B. DeMille was one of Hollywood’s most ardent anti-Communists, who never rescued blacklisted performers; and Muller’s hostility to Ginger Rogers was due to her anti-Communism. Note, too, that Edward G. Robinson’s career was doing fine before he performed in The Ten Commandments, and actually deteriorated afterwards. Such routine lies are why I call Muller, Red Eddie.
My friend and partner-in-crime, David in TN, has also spoken to this matter:
