Maybe an enterprising journalist could look into this? -- investigate and expose the workings of the foundation that administers the scholarship funds and chooses scholarship recipients (The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation), including who works there, how the people who work there are selected and hired, what criteria are used to choose scholarship recipients and who develops these criteria, etc etc.
Does anyone know an enterprising journalist?
Here's one of the esteemed 2022 scholarship recipients (link):
Fatimata D Cham -- Originally from the South Bronx, Fatimata is a Muslim Gambian-Senegalese first-generation American, double majoring in government and law, and women and gender studies. She is a published poet, human rights activist, and Coca-Cola Scholar.
As the saying goes, if you believe this fat black woman is a 'scholar', then I have a bridge to sell you.
Scrolling down the list, the recipients are overwhelming non-white, and predominantly female -- and as someone also once said (or should have), that ain't no accident.
So again: does anyone know an enterprising journalist?
